In 2026 UNIQLO introduced an integrated collaboration with Smart Works, pioneering a best-in-class example of ways that retailers can meet their strategic objectives whilst helping to deliver on social impact. This partnership has shown what can happen when a retailer combines the power of its products, people and platform to support women at a pivotal moment in their lives.
In 2026 global retailer UNIQLO introduced an integrated collaboration with Smart Works, pioneering a best-in-class example of ways that retailers can meet their strategic objectives whilst helping to deliver on social impact. UNIQLO recognised an opportunity to align its belief in the "Power of Clothing" with Smart Works' mission to help women into employment.
To meet growing demand, the charity relies on support from fashion retailers and brands, not only through clothing donations but also through partnerships that help to fund our core service and raise awareness of the charity. UNIQLO donated thousands of items to Smart Works centres across the UK, and the opening of UNIQLO's Bullring store in Birmingham brought the partnership to life at a local level.
The partnership was strengthened through the involvement of UNIQLO Creative Director Clare Waight Keller, who became a Smart Works Ambassador and curated a collection of workplace looks for UNIQLO's Spring Summer 2026 collection. To coincide with International Women's Day, UNIQLO launched The Power of Clothing, a photography series featuring seven Smart Works clients who had been supported on their journey into work.
This partnership succeeded because it moved beyond a single initiative. The combination of product donations, senior ambassador advocacy, customer engagement and brand activations created value in a way which was authentic for both stakeholders, reflecting a genuine connection between UNIQLO's belief in the power of clothing and Smart Works' mission to help women succeed.
The partnership delivered meaningful impact: 7,000 garments donated, and more than £7,000 raised through customer donations in UNIQLO stores during March, with all donations matched by payment provider Adyen. Colleagues from both store and head office teams volunteered at Smart Works centres in London and Birmingham, and national awareness was raised through in-store promotion and The Power of Clothing campaign and press event.
